How does physical activity help with weight control?

When we are physically active, our bodies use energy in the form of calories. We gain weight when we eat more calories than we use. These extra calories are then stored as fat. Physical activity helps to use up these extra calories. Engaging in moderate amounts of physical activity five or more times a week uses 150 calories of energy on each day of activity, which can equal a weight loss of about five pounds in six months or ten pounds in one year.
