Am I overweight?

Body mass index (BMI), a measure of body fat based on height and weight, is the way most health professionals figure out if you are overweight or obese. Below are the definitions of underweight, normal weight, overweight and obesity:

    BMI Categories:
    Underweight = <18.5
    Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
    Overweight = 25-29.9
    Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
To calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI), click here: Note that there are limits to the BMI measurement: it may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build; and it may underestimate body fat in older persons and others who have lost muscle mass.

Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, gall bladder disease, arthritis, sleep problems, breathing difficulties, and certain types of cancers.
